Blacksmith for a Day…and Stay

From: $450.00

This package is for that person that wants to really get a feel for the blacksmithing craft – with four hours at the anvil one-on-one blacksmithing in the forge with the local blacksmith. You’ll start the day at 1pm at FireHouse Ironworks Ltd. During your experience you can make a creative item or learn new techniques from an experienced smith. After the fire is dampened down at the forge, head up the mountain to our off-grid camping cabins and licensed lodge facility for a night in the woods. Bring a sleeping bag and something for the BBQ, enjoy a craft beer by the woodstove, and a comfortable nights rest in our heated cabins. In the morning you could hike on The Great Trail before heading down the mountain. Package includes 4 hour blacksmithing workshop for one person and accommodations in an off-grid cabin for up to two adults.

Blacksmith working at anvil and mountain forest of Whycocomagh Cape Breton Island

Forge and Forest

From: $435.00

Learn about the traditional craft of blacksmithing at our local forge, FireHouse Ironworks Ltd. You may have seen the TV show ‘Forged in Fire’ but trying your hand at blacksmithing will give you a new appreciation for the skill that is involved in the craft that helped build our civilization. Working with the local blacksmith you will make a small iron item to take home with you. Afterwards, retreat to the hardwood forest and spend the night in a modern off-grid camping cabin at Iron Mountain Wilderness Cabins. In the evening you can relax around the camp fire or have a pint in the Iron Mountain Lodge – home to Nova Scotia’s first off-grid pub. In the morning, get some exercise and take in the sights and sounds of the Acadian hardwood forest on The Great Trail. Walk 2.5km on the trail to a beautiful look-off of the Bras d’Or Lakes and then back to the Lodge (5km round trip).
