Iron Mountain Wilderness Cabins & Lodge
Centrally located in the southern highlands of Cape Breton Island, half way between Inverness and Baddeck, we are 30 minutes from the Causeway, just 5km from the TransCanada Highway, and yet, we're in a different world up here at 270 meters elevation.
Our 100% off-grid facility consists of 5 camping cabins and a fully serviced main lodge. The lodge offers guests a cozy lounge with woodstove, licensed bar, and restaurant all overlooking the Bras d'Or Lake and surrounding mountains. Accessible male and female washrooms and showers are located in the lodge, a short walk from our heated, four season cabins.
COVID-19 Temporary Changes: Visitors are not permitted. Guests are responsible for following public health orders including physical distancing – staying 2 metres (6 feet) apart from people outside your party. Washrooms are open 24hrs except for during cleaning - when stalls are occupied, please wait outside. Access to the dishwashing and water station in the main lodge is only open to campers from 9am-10:30am and 4-5pm. Table service in the pub will be available on a first come, first serve basis - limited seating and hours. Any guest who does not obey the public health orders will be asked to leave without refund. Please stay or return home if you are feeling unwell before or during your visit and if you are required to self-isolate. Thank you for your cooperation, we need your help to keep our doors open for business!

You will be surrounded by the woods and wildlife, revitalized by the fresh mountain air, and free to reconnect out here in the great outdoors. Our cabins are ideal for people who enjoy camping out - on your own, or with friends and family. Each of our cabins are a short walk from the fully serviced Main Lodge (male and female hot showers, washrooms, water and wash-up station, lounge and pub). Bring your favourite camp gear and enjoy a relaxing night in the woods.
IRON MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS CABINS
The Iron Mountain Wilderness Cabins are our own custom designed steel cabins with an integrated porch. We had them prefabricated for us here in Nova Scotia from 60% recycled steel and used a plant based spray foam to insulate them. We are proud of our unique 100% off -grid steel cabins. They have been built to serve our guests for a long time to come in all four seasons and to withstand our back country mountain environment while being comfortable, practical and cozy to spend time and rest in. Guests use washroom and shower facilities available close by in the lodge.
IRON MOUNTAIN LODGE
The Iron Mountain Lodge is the social centre of our facility. It is home to Nova Scotia's 1st 100% off-grid pub. The sun keeps our beer cold!
With four premium Nova Scotia craft beer from Halifax's Unfiltered Brewing on tap, and a fine selection of spirits, organic coffee and tea, it is a cozy place to relax and enjoy the panoramic mountainside views on offer in our unique wilderness setting.
At this time, we are permitted to have a maximum of 15 people in the lodge at one time and the lodge will be operating at reduced hours. Guests must keep 6 feet apart from other parties and staff while in the lodge. Campers will be able to access the washing and water station between 9am -10:30am and 4-5pm only (this does not include the washrooms, they are open 24 hrs except for during cleaning).
Food service for guests is pre-order only at this time. Please contact us at least two weeks in advance to have breakfast or dinner catered in our lodge during your stay.
Our cabins sleep 4 - with a max of 3 adults (top bunk for children). For parties that exceed this, please book two or more cabins, or contact us to see how we can accommodate you.
Nightly rate based on double occupancy is $167 CAD + tax. Booking two or more cabins? Contact us for special pricing. Likewise if you are travelling solo!
