Explore more of the back country on two wheels
Pack a lunch and strike out on your mountain bike into the heart of Cape Breton Island's back country. Follow The Great Trail from our location on the Whycocomagh Mountain Road north on an extensive network of back country forestry roads that will take you across the Keppoch plateau towards Margaree. You'll see the tell tale signs of wildlife everywhere along with beautiful forest, wetlands, and highland mountain views. Keep on The Great Trail to descend to Lake Ainslie for freshwater swimming and fishing. Or follow the trail further to Inverness to plunge into the ocean after your mountain bike travels.
For a quicker ride, zip along the winding and undulating hills south down the mountain via The Great Trail or west on the SANS 104 Cape Clear trail across the top of what is known locally as the Whale's Back. The Cape Clear trail continues all the way to Port Hood up mountain roads and tracks through gorgeous hardwood forests.
